Book About a Site

For this project, I had the privilege of being guided by the book master, Bob Aufuldish. In this book, I selected a site in San Francisco, CA and chose a large body of text for the main content. The purpose of this project was to learn the delicate art of book design, which consists of balancing the content with a pleasing and easily navigatable design system.

My book was about the impact of the counterculture in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. Within the 104 pages of my book, there’s a text that details the history of the counterculture, as well as its impact on society at large, my own personal photography work of the neighborhood from 2018 and 2023, album cover design analysis of popular and underground music from the era, an essay written in 1956 by an 8th-grade student who lived in the neighborhood, and poetry from popular Beatnik poets.

After the book was completed, I then extended the project into different areas of design. I created branding for a fictitious music festival called “The Gathering” which consisted of a social media campaign, an event poster, and a t-shirt graphic.
